Re: The Forbidden Passage
Salma picked her way through the trees at the bottom of the volcano carefully flicking her ears left and right as she went. Her hooves pounded the forest floor softly, her steps chosen with care. She didn't know much about the area she was in, nor did she want to be here. She was searching for a pasture. She had galloped her way to this place in hopes of finding fresh green grass. The road she followed kept twisting and curling around trees and bushes, much to her disliking. If a predator came along, there wasn't much distance or room to gain her full speed potential, and that worried her.

Re: The Forbidden Passage
It was incredible to think how the land could have changed so much- so drastically - and so quickly. Once land had been bristling cold with rain, was now boiling temperatures with dry, tropical like features. Antelopes and creatures alike were plentiful, but such change drastically effected the populations of her main food source. There was life in this new world, but none she'd ever thrived with. The smilodon dragged a salmon tongue over her enlarged fangs, panting and chuffing with each step, while her blue-gray hues wandered at the sight of the ocean. Her bulky, yet flexible frame pranced it's way through the thicket as she did so, but such a sight left her halting in her tracks to observe. Occasionally aquatic life leaped through the surface before plunging back into the blue, and the salty sea air made her mouth water. Flesh, ripping into it, made her blood trickle with anxiousness. Kytzia needed a thrill - no matter the size, which would leave her some extra obstacles as her pride was elsewhere. A scent tickled her nostrils, and a growl from her belly answered the desire. It was no antelope, but it'd do.

Re: The Forbidden Passage
Salmas' instincts kicked in as suddenly as rain stops on a dry afternoon. The scent wasn't wolves or mountain lions she would have encountered in her homeland before the days of destruction she had witnessed so long ago. She picked her head up from the alignment of her back to her shoulder and flared her nostrils to fly away at pestering bugs nearby. She stomped a hoof in irritation, not knowing what the scent was, but knowing it was something in front of her. She snorted and winnied before her eyes spotted a figure in a short sistance. The mare reared, pawing at the air to perhaps scare the animal off should it be a predator. If it pursued her, Salma would have the chase of her life, and possible, hopefully, a quick death if she was caught."Away from me creature!" She winnied.

Re: The Forbidden Passage
Through the thicket, this creature manifested itself by standing on rear limbs. It was massive, zebra like, but larger and did not show the markings of the kind. This one would be difficult to take down, but then again, the landscape would make the mare's flee difficult. Trees surrounded them both like prison cages, and whirling through them was their only escape, but it was indeed a slow move. The horse cried in it's language, but the smilodon didn't comprehend, but responded with a low growl that bellowed out from the pit of her chest. Kytzia's chops parted, elongated fangs sticking out from the sides of her mouth, and slithered to the mare's flank as she reared. With a quick lunge, Kytzia pounced onto the creature's back and dug her claws into it's flesh. Not before long, the smilodon lost her grip, and slowly began sliding down while clinging to her meal.

Re: The Forbidden Passage
Salma jerked her head to the side bringing her nose inward to her chest as the creature before her bared it long teeth. It meant to eat her! Salma reared again but the cat-like being had moved with swift intentions, sinking its claws into her rear when it pounced on her. A screeching winnie of terror left Salma as the weight brought her down to her knees. Quick to react, and in a panic, Salma scrambled to her feet and lashed her back legs out into the cats stomach, even though the pain in her rear was absolutely close to unbearable. Thinking the weight had lifted, Salma bolted in a zigzag neighing loud for help. If she reached the open meadows, if there ever was one in the area, she could outrun the cat, maybe.

A yelp crept from Kytzia's already parted chops as the Smilodon struggled to stay upon the creature's back. The creature's back began to bleed from puncture wounds, which created a slimy surface for the cat to keep a grip on, and soon bounced off the thrashing mare. The smilodon was quick to her feet, adrenaline coursing through her veins, head to toe and keeping her energy unlimited and pain vanish for the moment. The creature made spontaneous movements, which confused Kytzia for a few moments, but continued her course while eyeballing the mare's rear with bared fangs.

Re: The Forbidden Passage
Salma saw that the cat gave chase wen she glanced behind her. The mare hopped a log and galloped her way through the closely packed trees before, answering her prayers, a meadow came into existence. It was upon reaching the next few feet of the meadow that Salma saw a ravine below. Salma slowed instantaneously and reared in surprise before she dared face her upponent. Salma pawed at the air clicking her hooves together to try and intimidate the predator. Her ears fell back and Salma knew she would have to fight for her life. Jumping to her death was a very last resort.

Re: The Forbidden Passage
Kytzia sprinted after the creature as claws tore up the ground underneath her, and to the cat's surprise, the mammal halted before standing on it's rear limbs. The game clacked it's hooves together, frightening Kytzia slightly, and roared in protest as she lunged forward to her exposed belly with extended incisors. Hopefully if Kyztia kept the creature backing up, she'd fall to her death, and Kytzia could perhaps clamber down the rocks and eat.
